Pet Type | Cabin | Checked Baggage / Cargo | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Dog | Yes (≤9 kg incl. soft carrier ≤40x30x20 cm, 1 per pax; ≥8 wks (domestic)/16 wks (intl)) | Yes (≤45 kg incl. IATA crate; embargos for snub-nosed/dangerous breeds and hot/cold weather apply; book in advance) | Vaccine & health docs; snub-nosed breeds only in cabin; breed/route embargoes; see doc rules for all legs |
Cat | Yes (same as dogs; carrier & document rules identical) | Yes (identical cargo policy) | Vaccination, microchip (for some routes), health certificate needed |
Bird / Rabbit / Reptile / Fish | No | No (special arrangement, only via animal cargo w/ pre-approval, compliance, and permits required) | No standard pet acceptance; only specialist cargo handler option |
Important Guidelines
- Only small cats and dogs (≤9 kg incl. approved soft carrier) are accepted in the cabin on most Aeroméxico flights; one carrier per passenger.
- All other animals (including birds, reptiles, fish, rabbits) may only be transported as manifest cargo with prior authorization and correct documentation.
- Soft-sided cabin carriers max 40 x 30 x 20 cm; animal must stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably; pet must remain inside carrier at all times during travel.
- Snub-nosed/flat-faced breeds and “dangerous” dogs are not accepted in the cargo hold; see airline for full breed list and restrictions.
- Checked (in-hold) pets (over 9 kg) must be in hard, IATA/airline-compliant crates; max 45 kg with crate (pet+baggage); embargoes may apply for breed, temperature, aircraft type, and some destinations.
- Pet must have valid health/vaccination certificates, import/export/transit permits if required, and microchip if mandated by country/region; certificate must be issued within 5 days of flight date.
- Contact Aeroméxico and confirm documentation and acceptability before booking; failure to comply with rules leads to denied boarding and loss of the pet transport fee.
Woofly Tips
- Book animal travel early, as pet spaces in cabin or hold are limited and subject to approval on each flight/segment.
- Measure and weigh your pet in its carrier accurately prior to travel; strict compliance is enforced at airport and check-in.
- Carry both paper and digital copies of all pet documents for all border and airline checks—noncompliance/timing issues are common causes for denied boarding.
- If your pet is a snub-nosed or restricted breed, always call the airline ahead and check for embargo dates or alternative arrangements.
- Never sedate your animal without explicit veterinary instruction—sedated animals may be refused by airline for health/safety.
- Check all destination and transfer country import laws, particularly regarding rabies, microchip, and pet passport rules; these may differ from airline policy.
