Important Guidelines

  • Book your pet’s travel well in advance—capacity is limited for pets in both cabin and hold.
  • Only dogs and cats are accepted as cabin or checked baggage pets; all other animals (birds, rabbits, reptiles, fish) can only travel as cargo with paperwork and advance coordination.
  • For cabin: IATA-compliant, soft or hard-sided carrier, dog/cat up to 8kg (incl. carrier), must fit under seat; for hold: hard IATA crate, correct size for animal, labeled and secure.
  • Microchip and up-to-date rabies/health certificates are mandatory for travel within EU; always bring the EU Pet Passport and import/export paperwork if crossing borders.
  • Assistance/service dogs accepted free of charge with accreditation, advance notification, and medical documentation.
  • Breed bans or restrictions may be enforced depending on route, aircraft, or destination country law—check when booking.

Woofly Tips

  • Carry both physical and digital copies of all animal paperwork (passport, certificates, permits) for every segment/airport.
  • Acclimate your pet to its travel crate weeks before travel—nervous pets or undersized/incorrect carriers are a common reason for denied boarding.
  • Plan connections/layovers carefully—even if TAROM accepts pets, connecting airlines may not, or paperwork may need to be translated for customs.
  • For specialist cargo (bird, reptile, rabbit, fish), contact TAROM Cargo Services and arrange all special permits and packing at least a month before travel.
  • Never sedate your animal without veterinary approval. If your pet is ill, old, or too young, request airline advice for safe and legal carriage.
